Indians in the U.S Military







American Indians in the U.S.Military. Indian men and women have the same obligations and opportunities for military services as other U.S. citizens. Indeed, they have had a long history of serving with the nation's armed forces, dating back to the Revolutionary War.
After the recent war with Iraq, the Bureau of Indian Affairs(1991a) update its still incomplete information on Indian Veteran history. It reported that about 3,000 Indian military personnel served in the Persian Gulf of operations. Three Indians men were among those killed in action. A total of 24,000 Indian men and women were in the military in 1990 just prior to
Operation Desert Storm.
During the Vietnam War, 41,500 Indian men and women in the armed forces. Many of these people have helped organize important Veteran's groups, like the Navajo Nation.
